Posted in Injectable Fillers
3 Minute Read:
Injectable dermal fillers are popular and practical choices for women and men of all ages who wish to restore volume and smooth out mild to moderate lines and wrinkles.
How Do I Know Which Dermal Filler Is Best for Me?
There is an extensive array of dermal fillers available to you. While they all have the same general purpose (to restore youthful contours), their chemical makeups and ingredients vary, making some strains better suited for specific placements in the face.
Your Guide to Available Fillers
- JUVÉDERM® family of injectables: These smooth out fine lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet; fill the lips and lip lines; and augment the midface while increasing facial volume.
- RADIESSE®: This volumizing filler focuses on treating wrinkles.
- Restylane®: This injectable reduces wrinkles and increases facial volume.
- Sculptra® Aesthetic: This injectable adds fullness into areas of the face that have lost volume.
- KYBELLA® for double chins: This corrects double chins by dissolving the fat within the area.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers are temporary fixes, lasting anywhere from six to 18 months before the substance is absorbed or broken down by the body. Every filler is different, and its longevity depends on the type, placement, and patient (as some patients metabolize the material quicker than others).
Dermal filler treatments can be repeated as necessary.
Do I Need Dermal Fillers or Surgery?
Dermal fillers offer excellent results for women and men who do not need or are not ready to undergo cosmetic surgery, such as a facelift or a brow lift.
Cosmetic facial surgery provides much more extreme results than dermal fillers, and they do not require the touch-up treatments required with injectables. Unfortunately, these procedures are still surgery, and they require downtime and a more significant financial investment.
If you are looking to restore volume, reduce wrinkles, or achieve subtle rejuvenation, dermal fillers are the way to go. However, if you are suffering from significant skin laxity and volume displacement, a surgical procedure may be more appropriate for you.
What About BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Many people confuse BOTOX® Cosmetic (and the similar strains of Dysport® and XEOMIN®) with dermal fillers. While these are all injectable treatments that minimize signs of aging, BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a dermal filler and, therefore, not included in the above list.
BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and XEOMIN® are injectable neuromodulators that cause your muscles to relax, disabling the muscles that cause wrinkles from forming. If you are interested in a muscle relaxer, these treatments can smooth wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead and around the eyes, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.
