  • Only teenagers get acne. That is a myth. According to surveys people are getting acne in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s! The appearance will most likely be different as an adult. It will most times appear more like reddish nodules around the chin and jaw, rather than blackheads and whiteheads scattered all around the face.
  • Eating chocolate and drinking soda will give you acne. The answer is debatable. It has been a strong theory for a long time but there is no concrete evidence.
  • Stress will cause acne. The answer is debatable. There have been studies that have showed when students prep for an exam some do experience breakouts, but not all of them. There is proof however that stress creates a hormonal imbalance in the body which could cause acne.
  • Sunscreen will irritate or cause acne. If you have acne prone skin you want to use a sunscreen designed for your skin type and you shouldn’t have an issue.
  • You have acne because you don’t wash your face often enough. Typically that is untrue unless you really aren’t washing your face. There have been studies showing that when a teen washes their face twice instead of once a day it is more effective.
  • If you have a breakout you shouldn’t wear makeup. Certain makeup, typically liquid foundations aren’t the best if you have acne. Loose powder is much better for their skin.
  • Picking a pimple will make it go away. Picking a Pimple will cause scarring! Don’t pick your pimples!
  • Tanning Beds clear acne. Tanning beds are harmful, and they don’t clear up acne. This myth has been said for a long time but it is completely FALSE!
  • Toothpaste can heal a pimple. The ingredients in tooth paste can dry a pimple out, however it can cause irritation to the skin as well as skin rashes. Toothpaste isn’t made to be applied to our skin.
  • Blackheads are just dirt in your pores. Blackheads are not dirt. When cell turnover happens the oil and debris are pushed out of the pores. When the cell turnover isn’t happening quickly enough your pores collect the oil and debris.
  • Moisturizers will cause acne. When you dehydrate your skin it will actually produce more oil. Instead of being afraid of moisturizer buy one suited for your skin type. If you don’t know what your skin type is, or what moisturizer to buy come to The Spa At Spring Ridge for a complimentary consultation with one of our highly trained Aestheticians.

You can treat body acne just like face acne. Treating your face and body are two completely separate entities. The skin our face is very different from the skin on our bodies. Topical products are absorbed much more effectively through the face then the body as well.
